Opportunity for Confirmation, Reception to the Episcopal Church & Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows

The next opportunity for Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation:

Sunday, September 1 at the 11:15 service

On Sunday, September 1, The Rt. Rev. John Taylor, Bishop of Los Angeles, will be at All Saints-by-the-Sea. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to participate in the very important liturgical rites of Confirmation, Reception into the Episcopal Church, or Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows.

“What are Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation?”

Confirmation, Reception and Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows are all ways of making a mature, public affirmation of faith and commitment to the responsibilities of baptism. Through these liturgical rites, a person can declare or reaffirm their commitment to the person and ways of Jesus Christ and ask for the community’s support in this decision. Confirmation, Reception and Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows are liturgical rituals intended for people who are already baptized.

Confirmation is the primary act of making a mature affirmation of faith for people who have already been baptized. We welcome adults who have not been confirmed and high school youth to request the rite of Confirmation if they feel it would strengthen their discipleship.

Reception is for baptized and/or confirmed Christians who were raised in a tradition other than the Episcopal Church and who would like to be officially received as a member of the Episcopal Church.

Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows is for adults who have been confirmed and/or received into the Episcopal Church, but who wish to reaffirm their commitment as a disciple of Christ. People seeking reaffirmation may be returning to the community of faith following a time apart, or they may be on the other side of a particularly spiritually challenging or rich period and want to mark that spiritual growth with a public reaffirmation of their faith about their intentions.

These liturgical rites can only be administered only by a bishop. Our Bishop, The Rt. Rev. John Taylor, is excited to confirm, receive or preside over a reaffirmation of faith for anyone whose spiritual journey calls them to such action when he visits on September 1.

“What do I have to do?”

First, you need to pray about whether you are ready to make a mature, public affirmation of your faith with the support of your community of faith at All Saints-by-the-Sea.

If you have considered this question and feel that this is a meaningful step in your spiritual journey, talk to Rev. Aimée or Rev. Vicki about your desire.

Finally, you will need to prepare for this commitment with others in this community of faith. All Saints will hold a Confirmation/Reception/Reaffirmation Retreat, I Will With God’s Help, Saturday, August 24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m held in All Saints-by-the-Sea Parish House.
