After two Christmases away from our beloved Sanctuary, we are happy to announce the times of our Christmas services this year! On Christmas Eve we will hold an afternoon service for families in which the children & youth will help tell the story of the Nativity, and in the evening we will celebrate the mystery of Christmas with a choral Eucharist, concluding with a candlelit dismissal while singing Silent Night.
To help allow for social distancing, we ask parishioners to consider attending the evening service or the Christmas Day this year, which will help allow for distancing measures during the 4 p.m. Family Service.
The day after Christmas will be Comfy Sunday, when everyone is invited to come to church in whatever outfit is most comfortable! Feel free to roll out of bed and come in your Christmas pajamas.

Please join with parishioners and friends of All Saints for a special week of remembrance and celebration in honor of our work to restore the historic All Saints-by-the-Sea Sanctuary. A series of activities will take place to honor those who passed away during the pandemic and to celebrate what we have accomplished to preserve and ready our sacred space for its next century of service.
Monday, November 1 at 4:30 p.m.
A Requiem Mass is an exquisite service offered in song, chant, and prayer for the repose soul. While in-person ministries at All Saints-by-the-Sea were suspended due to the pandemic, we lost 26 church members. The grief of our losses were made more painful by our inability to gather to mourn those we loved and lost, comfort one another in our grief. Tomorrow we will gather to do just that. All are welcome as we commend to God these 26 beloved souls.
This special service will be livestreamed on our website on on our YouTube channel. You can watch the service here this Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, November 3 at 6 p.m.
A special Eventide service held in the Sanctuary. The service will reflect on the theme, “How Firm Our Foundation.”
Sunday, November 7 at the 10:30 a.m. service
The Rt. Rev. John H. Taylor, Bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles, will visit us to bless the newly renovated Sanctuary at the 10:30 a.m. service. The 10:30 service will also include a baptism, and children will be invited to asperge the congregation and columbarium with holy water. A reception will be held after the service on the patio.
The 8 a.m. service will take place as usual, with Bishop Taylor.
Next Sunday, October 3 at the 10:30 service
All are invited to this year’s St. Francis Day celebration! All Saints will hold a special Blessing of the Animals service this Sunday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. (please no animals at 8 a.m.).
All are invited to bring an animal companion to the service so they can receive a blessing––all God’s creatures will be welcomed! The service will also feature special music from Kim Collins’ worship band.
Bring a furry or feathered friend next week, or just come to worship and enjoy the menagerie!

Dear People of All Saints,
We are so excited to welcome you back to our spiritual home on Sunday, July 4. We last worshipped together in the Sanctuary in January 2019. Ours will be a long-awaited reunion.
Amid the excitement of opening preparations, new COVID-19 protocol was outlined by the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, the CDC, and the California Public Health Department. The G.R.A.C.E. Committee, therefore, sought your input in a parish-wide survey. We received generous responses as diverse as is our community of faith. We thank you for your patience as we gathered your feedback. Your contributions have guided our reopening protocol. We heard, and share, your concern that we avoid creating a two-tiered congregation of vaccinated and unvaccinated parishioners. Our protocol strives to keep us united as one Body in Christ:
On Sunday, July 4, we will hold services at both 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The services will be identical in style, and reservations will not be required to attend services. Indoor and outdoor seating will be available. Live audio of the service will be fed to the Patio for those who choose to sit outdoors.
In line with public health protocol, vaccinated people may choose whether or not to mask. If you are uncomfortable in any way, feel free to wear a mask. Unvaccinated people must continue to mask and socially distance.
Remember, some people in our churches are not yet vaccinated, either by choice or because they are not yet eligible to be vaccinated, including all parishioners ages 11 and under. Our bishop, The Rt. Rev. John Taylor implores:
“We want everyone to know that the person next to them and their family in the pew is safe. Accordingly, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I beseech all adults in our diocese, if they cannot or choose not to be vaccinated, to follow scrupulously the CDC requirement for non-vaccinated people and continue to mask up and socially distance or, if you prefer, to worship remotely.”

To respect the diverse needs of our community of faith, we invite everyone to please respect social distancing between households when seated and receiving communion. Ushers will guide people to assist in this effort. Remember, our unvaccinated members, youngest members, and medically vulnerable members will still need to socially distance, and everyone’s cooperation will help ensure their health and well-being.
At this time, the 8 a.m. and the 10:30 a.m. services will be identical to allow parishioners to spread out between the services, thus enabling more space for social distancing between households. Attendance is usually lower at the 8 a.m. service.
When in-person worship resumes on July 4, we plan to livestream our Sunday service. The service will be able to be accessed throughout the following week on our website for those who wish to continue worshiping virtually.
If you have a fever, cough, cold or flu-like symptoms, or difficulty breathing, please enjoy virtual church from the comfort and safety of your home and return to church when you are well.
We will offer one-use paper bulletins. After the service, please take your bulletin home with you to recycle, or return it to an usher for recycling. Please do not return it to a stack of bulletins. A QR code will also be available upon entry for those who wish to access a hands-free digital bulletin.
If you need or want to wear a mask, please bring one from home. Ushers will be able to provide you with a mask should you need one. Children’s masks will also be available. There will also be several hand sanitizing stations available throughout the Sanctuary.
While vaccinated people are permitted to sing, our unvaccinated parishioners are still not permitted to do so. So that we do not silence parishioners who are worshipping among us at church, we will refrain from congregational singing at this time. Fortunately, we will be able to enjoy the musical offerings of ournew organ, other instrumentalists, and our vaccinated cantors and choir members. We look forward to when we are all able to join in one chorus!
You will find offertory plates stationed in the back of the church for your generous giving. Ushers will refrain from passing offertory plates at this time. You can find out more about giving to All Saints-by-the-Sea through automatic payments by contacting our bookkeeper, Cynthia Breen.
At this time, we will celebrate Communion in one kind, receiving only bread. The Presiding Bishop, The Most Rev. Michael Curry, asks that we continue to serve communion in one kind as he and his colleagues discern the best way to honor our Anglican heritage of the common cup in the shadow of pandemic.
We look forward to resuming Coffee Hour in the fall. All are welcome to enjoy one another’s company following the service, but no food or coffee will be provided during summer services.
Of the 165 households who responded to the parish-wide poll, 96% reported that all eligible members of their households were fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is an impressive number! Way to go All Saints! Thank you for your help in keeping our community safe. We encourage all who are eligible to consult with your physician about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
So much time and care has gone into making our July 4th in-person reopening a reality, from the tireless work of the Facilities Committee who guided every step of construction; to the Vestry, lay ministers, and Staff who have kept All Saints going throughout the pandemic; to the G.R.A.C.E. Committee Members who carefully followed and planned amid the changing landscape of COVID-19. All of this has been an act of loving service to you, our beloved community of All Saints-by-the-Sea. We cannot wait to see you on July 4.

Dear All Saints Parishioners,
It has been my honor to be your Children, Youth, and Family Minister over the past two years. In June, my family is moving to Arkansas, where my parents live. We are moving for several reasons. Foremost is that my lungs and vocal cords were damaged during the Thomas Fire, and my doctors are hopeful that I will recover in a more humid environment. Second is that Deron’s parents are at the point in their lives when they need assistance from us, and we will be better equipped to help them if we have extended family nearby to help us with our children. Deron will retain his position and lab at UCSB and will commute back and forth between Santa Barbara and Arkansas. So if you know of anyone in need of a sporadic and an infrequent renter for their studio, please let us know. 😉
I have had such a wonderful time getting to know the people of All Saints. First as a parishioner and then as a staff member. I enjoyed watching your children grow as they played with my boys Reid and Kellar and form friendships with each other. I delighted in seeing our youth transition from the Epiphany pageant into the young adulthood of high school and college. I struggled beside many of you as we sought answers for our children’s questions about fires, mudslides, and why God lets bad things happen. I persevered with you through the changes, transitions, and fears that have hit our faith community over the last few years, and, like you, I did the best that I could for our children and families. Like you, I taught my kids that church is a verb not a location, when we began worshipping in the parish hall. We recorded readings as a family for video services during COVID. We did Mass Box activities at home. I laughed with youth and cried with parents when Sunday School moved to Zoom digital communities this year. All while we longed for a return to the “old normal”, yet knowing when we did return there would be a “new normal.”
Unfortunately, I am moving before our “new normal” Sunday services begin this summer. This means that I won’t get to say goodbye to each of you in person. With COVID restrictions, I can’t even give hugs and kiss cheeks or see your smiles. So instead I leave you with a gift. That gift is Beth Mohon. Beth is our new Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries, and she has taken to the position like a duck to water! I have such faith in her leadership and in the community of All Saints-by-the-Sea that I have no concerns about the future of the Children, Youth, and Family Ministries programs. I know that each of you will do your part to support Beth, All Saints, and the CYFM programs, so that our children and youth realize that they are the fully the church of today, not tomorrow.
Thank you for your faith and trust in me as your Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries. It has been my honor and my pleasure to worship beside you at All Saints. Deron, Reid, Kellar, and I will miss our All Saints-by-the-Sea family very much. Thank you for welcoming us so deeply.

Dear Parishioners,
I am honored to serve as the next Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries at All Saints-by-the-Sea. Five years ago my family relocated to Santa Barbara from Louisville, Kentucky when my husband Ken accepted a writing faculty position at University of California, Santa Barbara. I worked in restaurant management and as a college writing instructor before caring full-time for our two boys, Kenny and Elliott. It has been a fun couple of years packed with many playgrounds, walks on the beach, lots of Legos, piles of laundry, and, most recently, Zoom school.
In searching for a church home, I wanted a place where I could grow spiritually along with my children. Ken and I chose to join the community when we saw All Saints make good on their promises to love and accept all people (especially children) wherever they are on their spiritual journey. Elliott was baptised by Rev. Aimee in 2017 and has made lots of friends in the nursery, and Kenny has attended Godly Play and worship for three years. I have also participated as a leader in Godly Play and worked with the children preparing for the Epiphany Pageant.
As a new ministry director, I hope to extend the love and support I’ve received as a believer and as a parent to all children, youth, and families both inside and outside of All Saints. The graciousness of this church has meant so much to my family, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community.. As Covid restrictions begin to lift and we are getting ready to gather again in person, I am excited to discern together where Christ is calling our ministry.

On Pentecost Sunday, May 23rd, All Saints will acknowledge the members of our congregation who are graduating this year! The service will also feature special musical offerings from the All Saints Virtual Choir. Many of our graduates will participate in leading the service, so be sure to check it out on Sunday to congratulate them on their successes!
