Annual Meeting Plots Course for Project, Parish
All Saints’ annual meeting, held on April 22, 2018, laid out our path forward for the next few years. Here are some of the highlights:
- The meeting began with a review of the year just past in pictures, prepared by Sheri Benninghoven and using pictures taken by Sheri and our beloved Treasurer Fred Allen, who sadly died last year.
- Senior Warden Tom Mack laid out the two main challenges facing the parish – conducting a complex construction/renovation project and doing everything else without our sanctuary – and discussed why he thinks we are well prepared to be successful.
- Treasurer Don Benninghoven reported a generally positive view of our finances, with strong oversight and financial controls, pledges up slightly from the prior year, and a 2018 budget that shows a continuing but reduced deficit from that budgeted for 2017.
- Facilities Committee Chair Chip Nichols presented the status and plan for the Sanctuary Preservation and Readiness Project, after adjustments needed to reflect delays from the Thomas fire and debris flow. Key points:
-
- We have raised $10.4 million in the capital campaign, exceeding the $10.1 million budgeted for construction costs; additional funds will go toward the goal of a $1.5 million endowment/invested reserve fund
- Three general contractor candidates have received bid packages, and the Vestry expects to affirm a final selection on June 12
- The final pre-renovation service in the Sanctuary is set for August 12, with services in Parish Hall to commence August 19
- Following a number of pre-construction activities, including moving and storage of the Sanctuary’s contents, actual construction work is scheduled to begin October 29
- Construction project duration will reflect the selected contractor’s proposed schedule and other factors; early indications are in the range of 15 to 20 months.
- Reverend Aimee Eyer-Delevett reported on her work with the staff and the results of the listening sessions last November to shape a worship format for our “sojourn” time in Parish Hall. The plan is to have four services each weekend, with one on Saturday at 5pm and three on Sunday, beginning at 7:45am with something quite similar to the current 8am service; coffee hour; a 9am less formal service; formation time for both children and adults from 10:15-11; and a final service at 11:15am similar to the current 10am worship. All services will include Eucharist, and current midweek services are expected to continue.
- Junior Warden George Ittner chaired the nominating committee and reported on election results. Chuck DiTirro (continuing), Tom Mack (continuing), Gerry Doran, Jeff Moehlis, Vera Sheef and Simon Walter were all elected to the Vestry. Many thanks to retiring members Stephen Schaible, Charlie Cairns, Sally Messerlian and Nathan Siegler for their service.
