Being Human in the Age of AI: Conversations with the Rev. Channing Smith — September 23 & 30
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of everyday life. But amid all the conversation about what AI can do, there is another set of questions worth asking: What does this technology mean for us as human beings? How might it change our relationships, our communities, and our sense of purpose? And what resources does faith offer as we navigate these changes?
Join the Rev. Channing Smith for Being Human in the Age of AI, two evenings of conversation at All Saints-by-the-Sea. Rather than approaching AI simply as a technology problem to be solved, Channing will invite us to consider it as a human and spiritual challenge—one that calls for thoughtful discernment about who we are and who we want to become.
Drawing on Scripture, theology, pastoral wisdom, and contemporary scholarship, the conversations will explore both the possibilities and disruptions accompanying AI, including questions of loneliness, empathy, human purpose, embodiment, and community. We’ll also consider what our faith tradition brings to this moment: moral imagination, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, genuine human encounter, and the irreplaceable value of community.
You don’t need to know anything about AI to participate. Come curious, concerned, excited, skeptical—or some combination of all four. The goal is not to tell us what to think about AI, but to help us think together about what kind of relationship we want to have with it.
