Wise Women to Hear From Hearts Adaptive Riding

Hearts.fwOn Sunday, May 25, Wise Women will hear from parishioner Ben Short as he shares with us about his experiences with the Hearts Adaptive Riding group.  A past recipient of All Saints Outreach money, Hearts Adaptive Riding is an unusual but valuable program for people with a wide range of disabilities.

Since opening in 1985, Hearts Therapuetic have delivered approximately 60,000 lesson hours of therapeutic riding to over 2,000 members of our community. Today 10 horses serve around 80 riders per week.  Hearts’ mission is to employ the power of the horse to enhance the capabilities of children and adults with special needs in Santa Barbara County and they are recognized by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International as a “premier center” — the highest possible level of accreditation, demonstrating a superior level of adherence to national industry standards.  Lessons are individually designed to meet each rider’s particular need and ability and are consistent with predetermined goals that are established in partnership with parents, caregivers, physicians and other therapists.

Horses and Heroes – Hearts Therapeutic Equestrian Center is offering an opportunity to spend time with horses as a way of honoring and thanking United States Veterans.   Veterans who have physical, mental and/or emotional disabilities benefit in a variety of ways through equine-based therapy, which has been proven to help those living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Hearts offers this program to veterans at no cost to them.

Lunch is provided; please bring $5 to cover the cost.  Please rsvp via email to rsvp@asbts.org or call the Church Office at 805-969-4771.
