All Saints Music Director Steve O’Connor was honored recently during induction ceremonies into Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit Honor Society.  More than 150 undergraduate and graduate students from colleges around the United States, including those from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where Steve is working on his Master’s Degree, received this recognition of academic and citizenship prowess.  You can photos from the induction ceremony here.

“Alpha Sigma Nu honors students who are the head, and the heart, of their class,” commented Loyola Marymount University President Dave Burcham.

“We not only recognize superior academic achievement, but also the important values of service and loyalty that play a central role in the specific vision of Jesuit higher education.  They excel in their academic pursuits and, what’s more, they have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the life of the mind, the service of others, and the promotion of justice,” he added.

Steve’s achievements don’t stop there, however.  After a Huffington Ecumenical Institute symposium on the topic of ‘liturgical music,’ students were invited to submit a newly composed piece of music appropriate for use in a liturgical service.  Steve’s essay on the topic of “Liturgical Music in 21st Century Western Environment” along with a short musical antiphon won the $1000 graduate student award!

Congratulations, Steve.  The entire All Saints community is so proud of you!
