Resolutions at convention
During its Dec. 2 – 4 meeting, Diocesan Convention considered several resolutions.
  • Resolution regarding becoming an abolitionist diocese: Passed overwhelmingly without debate
  • Resolution regarding appreciation for the Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno: Passed overwhelmingly without debate
  • Resolution regarding healing in the Diocese of Los Angeles: After a failed amendment and debate, postponed indefinitely.
  • Resolution regarding property to be transferred from Corporation Sole to the Corporation of the Diocese:  A substitute motion was offered by the proponent and allowed by convention. The substitute stated: “Resolved that the One Hundred Twenty-first Annual Meeting of the Church in the Diocese of Los Angeles affirms the action of the Diocesan Council at its November 10, 2016, meeting regarding Corporation Sole (as reported by The Episcopal News in an advisory 11/11/16) and commends the work of the Special Committee Concerning Corporation Sole, a panel formed by Convention action in 2015.” The substitute resolution was passed.
Two additional resolutions were offered during convention. The first, which proposed that the Diocese of Los Angeles declare itself a sanctuary diocese, was approved by the Committee on Resolutions in response to events that occurred after the deadline for sbmitting resolutions was past, an action allowed in the church’s canons. After much debate and a failed amendment, the resolution was passed.

The second resolution presented during the meeting, proposed by the Committee on the Bishop’s Address, called for the diocese to renew itscompanion relationship with the Diocese of Jerusalem and the Middle East for another three years. The motion passed overwhelmingly without debate.
